Creating a defensible space provides you with peace of mind when faced against a wildfire. What this entails is making your property “fire smart” and allows fire fighters to effectively protect your property. This also moves you to a top priority during triage, when fire fighters are deciding what properties can safely be saved.

Starting with the basics, removing over growth, trimming low hanging branches, removing vegetation from the proximity of structures, and placing hardscape borders around homes and other important structures.

More in depth treatments consist of creating fuel breaks combined with the above mentioned treatments. These can take on many different forms. Some options would include, a strip of timber or vegetation being harvested or removed between your structures and property line, we can do this in aesthetically pleasing way that provides adequate protection without compromising the view. Another option would be putting a “hard line” around the perimeter of your property, at RDE we can make this more than just a dirt line in the ground and turn this into a nice walking path or an access road. These are just a few of the many different options that allow you to protect yourself and property during a wildfire.
